Great Southern and Western of Ireland, die größte Eisenbahn Irlands mit dem Sitz der Gesellschaft in Dublin (1122 engl. Meilen = 1805 km). Die G. konstituierte sich auf Grund der Parlamentsakte von 6. August 1844 und 21. Juli 1845. Die Hauptlinie geht von Dublin südwestlich über Sallins, Kildare, Portarlington, Maryborough, Ballybrophy, Thurles, Limerick Junction, Charlesville und Mallow nach Cork an die Südküste.

Das aufgewendete Anlagekapital betrug 1912 rund 13∙6 Mill. (277∙4 Millionen M.); die Einnahmen betrugen 1912 1∙56 Millionen (31∙8 Mill. M.), hievon für Personen und Gepäck 0∙76 Mill. (15∙5 Mill. M.), für Güter 0∙79 Mill. (16∙1 Mill. M.). Die Ausgaben betrugen 0∙91 Mill. (18∙6 Mill. M.), der Betriebskoeffizient stellt sich auf 58%. Die Aktiendividende betrug 1912 5%.
