Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (591 englische Meilen = 951 km), Eisenbahngesellschaft in Mittelengland mit dem Sitz in Manchester, entstanden 1847, erweitert 1859 durch die Verschmelzung mit der East Lancashire Railway.

Die L. verbindet die Westküste mit der Ostküste Englands. Den bedeutendsten Verkehr hat sie in den dichtbevölkerten Gegenden von Manchester, Liverpool, Southport, Preston und Bolton, von wo sie einen Ausläufer nach dem wichtigen Kohlenausfuhrhafen Goole entsendet.

Von bemerkenswerten Bauwerken sei der Victoria-Bahnhof in Manchester mit 17 Bahnsteigen erwähnt.

Das aufgewendete Anlagekapital betrug Ende 1912 rd. 71 Mill. (1448 Mill. M.). Die Betriebseinnahmen beliefen sich auf 6∙9 Mill. (140∙7 Mill. M.), denen 4∙4 Mill. (89∙8 Mill. M.) Betriebsausgaben gegenüberstanden. Der Betriebskoeffizient betrug 64%.
